1 – 3rd of Abadius – The party heads out to hunt the Owlbear responsible for destrying parts of Attin.
Leaving the party behind Thorushk rushes home to Abigail so that he may spend new years with her. He arrives at Attin on the back of phantom horse that seems to walk glide across the ground and not touch it.
The following morning the rest of the party catch up with Thorushk in Attin. Gloinus is sent out to search for the Owlbear menace that has been bothering the population while the rest of the party splits up and starts making inquiries in the city about the cult growing in the city as well. Thorushk comes up empty. But Tyrion brings back a list of 12 people that could be suspects. With this in hand Thorushk sends Perlivash out to scout and find out who is behind it. More than earning his keep Perlivash gets the right person on the first time out. Tracks them to a farm that has a trap door leading down. Figuring that he had done what was required he reported back to Thorushk. The party headed out immediatly.
Upon opening the barn door an bell starts tinkling. So much for stealth. As we are discussing what to do, Tyrion climbs down the trapdoor. Everyone else starts coming down one at a time, taking attacks of opportunity as they climb down the ladder. Thorushk jumps down thinking to avoid the attack…. and procedes to land on his butt.
The battle procedes. Several times Gal gets tied up in his own bow string, and is surrounded by cultists. Tyrion not caring about them due to him being in full plate calmly walks around the cultists while their attacks bounce casually off his armour. That is until the ring leader curses him so that he stands there dumbfounded every other round. Thorushk notices that two of the women are pregnant, and tells the party not to kill them. Too late, Gal’s female friend cuts one down. After the cultists are down and Thorushk has managed to subdue the other pregnant one without killing her, she goes into labour. All of us look around seeing who has the ability to deliver a baby (heal) and much to our dismay we all have to wing it. The woman almost dies in childbirth but is saved by a timely heal by Gal.
Upon returning to town, disaster has struck. The GIANT owlbear has destroyed a smithy and the alchemist shop. The party decides to rest before hunting it down.
After a nights rest we are told where its lair is by a battered Gloinus and company that tracked it after it attacked the city. As we enter into the cave a shrieking noise goes off from a couple of mushrooms. And chaos ensues. Three large what can only be described as Tentacle monsters start attacking, and every time one of their appendages touches someone that part of their body starts rotting. Gal’s female companion took the most of it and seemed to be drained and weak when they were defeated (con reduced…. remember this for later). But there was no rest, during that fight the shambling mound we had been searching for came from the chamber to the right. Then to the left came many giant spiders. The battle raged and the shambling mound laid a beating to Gal’s companion knocking her unconscious and consequently killed her (-10 HP, which she would have been fine from but the tentacle monsters reduced her con to 8). A swarm of mad monkeys was summoned by Thorushk to take care of the spiders, they seemed to concentrate on the monkeys as though the great hand of fate hated those monkeys and guided the spiders to try and kill it. When the spiders were dead the shambling mound fell on the same turn. Only to release a swarm of centipedes from its body. The monkeys looked at the insects…. the insects scuttled towards the monkeys…. and THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT!!!!!!! Monkey poop, insects and disgusting noises came from the battle of the two swarms. But it was the monkeys who came out of it on top. Gal ran to his companions side. The noise must have been too much because the HUGE owl bear (15X15) came up the ramp to the front and batted Gal 10 feet into the air. The swarm, Tyrion and Thorushk started laying into the owlbear. Gal got up looking almost dead and ran to the hallway to the right to heal. After he used the wand on himself he reached back to grab his bow…. that lay at the feet of the owlbear where he was batted into the air. Thorushk raised his hands to the air and summoned a mighty warrior from the heavens. With its great weapon it flanked the creature with Tyrion and laid the owlbear to waste while Thorushk peppered it with spells.
The only thing of note was the round where Gal was healing himself. The owlbear could not contain himself and started eating his companions body that was lying on the floor.
